306 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine B efore commencing his career as a business scientist, James Irving Morgan received dual BS degrees in chemical engineering and business management from the University of Colorado in 1955 and an MS in operations research from the Case Institute of Technology in 1960. He also spent six months serving with the U.S. Army. Today, Mr. Morgan’s achievements include the development of computer languages and information systems for financial modeling, economic evaluation and business performance monitoring. In the early years of his career, Mr. Morgan was a chemical plant operator and foreman at the University of Colorado’s Engineering Experimental Station. From 1955 to 1958, he held his first position with the Dow Chemical Co. as a chemical engineer and economic evaluator, and then spent one year in 1960 as an operations research analyst at the St. Regis Paper Company. In 1961, Mr. Morgan returned to Dow Chemical as a staff business science specialist, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Recognized by Creative 360 as an “Innovative Over 80 Person,” Mr. Morgan is a long-term treasurer of the Kiwassee Kiwanis service club besides being active in many local organizations. He was an author of a chapter in “The Production and Inventory Control Handbook” and a contributor of articles to several professional journals. He credits his high school chemistry teacher for developing his interest in chemical engineering. Once he realized he worked better with numbers and analytics than mechanics, he found it beneficial to work in planning at a chemical company as it was where his original interest stemmed. Outside of his professional work, Mr. Morgan is a lover of composing music. He enjoys the challenge of coming up with lyrics to match a melody, and vice versa, as well as making phrases rhyme. Mr. Morgan also enjoys creating family trip photo albums and tracking family genealogy. He finds it especially exciting how genealogy starts off with two people, and can later trace thousands of distant family members.
