325 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Elizabeth H. Nelson received a Bachelor of Arts in 1951 from Middlebury College and PhD in 1953 from the University of London. She also holds an honorary DSc from City London University and honorary PhD from Open University. Upon obtaining her doctorate degree, Dr. Nelson’s advisor suggested she apply to be a trainee within the research department at Mars Limited in London. She served in that role from 1954 to 1955. Since 2013, Dr. Nelson has served as chair and founder of the Archive of Market and Social Research. From 2004 to 2016, she was chief executive officer of Chronic Granulomatous Disorder Research Trust, and from 1997 to 2002, chair of the South West London Community NHS Trust. Likewise, from 1995 to 2001, she was the chair for the University of Roehampton. Serving in additional distinguished roles, Dr. Nelson was chief executive of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers from 1992 to 1995 and the founder, director and chair of Taylor Nelson/Sofres from 1965 to 1992. Earlier in her career, Dr. Nelson was director of Mass Observation Ltd. for one year, and director and managing director of the research unit at Benton & Bowles from 1955 to 1964. Notably, Dr. Nelson holds a Decorated Honor of the British Empire, as well as the First Women’s Award from Lloyd Bank from 2011 and 2012. A huge celebration of women in business, Dr. Nelson was most honored to receive her recognition from Lloyd Bank. During the war, women in the United Kingdom were statisticians, studying aspects of how people were eating and how to deal with rationing, as well as bombing. Women led the way in social research and receiving recognition was incredibly meaningful to Dr. Nelson and her peers. Dr. Nelson is a member of the Market Research Society, Freedom City of London and International Women’s Forum, as well as a fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts. Her advice to those aspiring to break into her profession is that no matter what obstacles or setbacks may appear along the way, never stop pursuing your ultimate dreams and goals. She looks forward to continued career success and growth. ELIZABETH H.
