75 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION B everly E. Conway received an AS in 1972 and a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry in 1974, both from the University of North Dakota. In 1977, she went on to achieve an MS in nutrition from Washington State University. With intentions to enter the field of research, having conducted research on premature baboons as human infant models, Ms. Conway found her way into teaching, a profession which she found that she loved. Since 1998, Ms. Conway has served as an associate professor of science and nutrition at Williston State College in North Dakota. Today, she notably holds a Williston State College Foundation and Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Award. Previously, she spent 1985 to 1988 as a research assistant at South West Foundation Biomedical Research and 1982 to 1983 as a biology LHR assistant at Bentley College in Massachusetts. She commenced her career in 1974 with Washington State University as a graduate research teaching assistant. Looking back on her career, Ms. Conway has found great reward in working with so many students. Watching her students work toward grasping difficult concepts and become better thinkers is what keeps her motivated as an educator. She attributes her success to having an innate love for teaching, as well as patience. She credits her mother, who was also a college professor, for showing her what it takes to be an excellent educator. Despite her distinguished profession, Ms. Conway says her greatest achievement has been raising her children. Alongside her career, Ms. Conway is a frequent guest speaker on nutrition to cancer support groups and health organizations. She is a member of the Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society and Sons of Norway, where she was foundation director from 2004 to 2005. Additionally, Ms. Conway has served as a judge for the Little Miss & Pre-Teen Miss North Dakota Pageant, and in her free time, enjoys gardening and refurnishing furniture.
