90 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A chieving his dreams of pursuing a career in education, in 2019 Dr. Cy Gruberg was honored by the Guidance and College Counseling Department of the University School of Nova Southeastern University by naming it the “Dr. Cy Gruberg Guidance and College Counseling Center.” Dr. Gruberg served as the director of this department for 15 years from 1985 to 2000 and was instrumental in building the department’s outstanding reputation. Additionally, he was a private independent consultant to the university from 2000 to 2010. Dr. Gruberg received a BS, MS and PhD in counseling and psychology from Rider University, Syracuse University and Columbia Pacific University, respectively. Additionally, he served in the Army Medical Corps in 1946. Commencing his career in 1949, Dr. Gruberg was a teacher and guidance counselor at Wellington C. Mepham High School until 1960. He spent 1960 to 1966 as a guidance counselor, dean and director of guidance at Lynbrook High School, and then one year as assistant professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz. From 1967 to 1985, he was director of pupil personnel services and guidance at Hastings-on-Hudson High School. Dr. Gruberg is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, New York State Teachers Association, New York State School Counselor Association, American Personnel and Guidance Association, American Indian Education Fund, Westchester Putnam Rockland Counseling Association, National Education Association, Southern Association for College Admission Counseling, American Educational Research Association, National Association for College Admissions Counseling, American Legion, Florida Public Libraries Foundation, Phi Delta Kappa, Zeta Beta Tau and B’nai B’rith. The recipient of numerous accolades, Dr. Gruberg was named Volunteer of the Year at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Florida in 2004 and was named to the Broward County Senior Hall of Fame in 2000. In 1964 and 1972, he was the recipient of the William O. Hamilton Award Key Club from New York State, and received a National Citation in Parents’ Magazine from 1960 to 1965. Additionally, June 3, 1981 was proclaimed “Cy Gruberg Day” in Westchester County.
