46 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine BUSINESS SERVICES, CONSULTING AND HUMAN RESOURCES A retired legislator and businessman in the state of Montana, Edward Bernie Butcher has been active in politics and campaigning from a young age. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Montana University and Master of Arts from the University of Montana, Mr. Butcher specialized in history and political science, which has laid the foundation for the remainder of his career. At the inception of his career in 1967, he served as a high school government teacher before teaching at Valley City State University in North Dakota and the University of Great Falls in Montana. In 1972, Mr. Butcher and his wife purchased Butcher’s Rolling Hills Ranch from his parents to begin a business career. While operating the ranch, he delved into business ventures for several companies primarily as an independent business consultant for a national dental consulting company, where he put together partnerships and groups for three decades. Describing his work style as a continual process, he retired from business consulting while spending more time in the political arena as a legislator. During his tenure in government, Mr. Butcher wrote a charter that gave his Montana county self-governing authority. Impressively, the charter was passed by county voters with over 50% of the majority vote in 1996. Maintaining membership with Gideons International, the National Rifle Association and the National Farmers Organization, where he is a past state president, Mr. Butcher is currently focused on conducting research for a book regarding his genealogy descending back to pre-revolution periods. Within his book, he also hopes to tie together events from Virginia and West Virginia to frontier Montana, as his ancestors were one of the first settlers within the Appalachian region. Additionally, he is still involved in politics, in which he travels to several invited seminars and presentations. Furthermore, he remains busy by writing editorial articles for local newspapers. As a testament to his success, Mr. Butcher received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 and is highlighted in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Politics and Who’s Who in the West.
