Likewise, she maintained membership with the school- based management committee of Hooper Alexander School. Post-retirement, Ms. Mabry continued her education and earned an advanced diploma in Biblical studies at the Faith Bible Institute in 2017. Additionally, she has been involved within her local community as a member of the Teach Well Wellness Program at the Emory University School of Public Health, chair of the board of directors of the DeKalb Economic Opportunity Authority and secretary of the Lithonia Civic League. Ms. Mabry has demonstrated versatility within her field through her authoring of numerous poems in poetry anthologies. She has been affiliated with the DeKalb Association of Educators, Zeta Phi Beta and the NAACP. She was named Teacher of the Year by the DeKalb County School System. C athy D. Mabry was inspired to enter the field of teaching from an early age, having been influenced by her fifth grade teacher. Her teacher left a wondrous impression upon her, and from that point forward, she sought to teach students in the same way she had been taught herself. Attending the University of Georgia, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and psychology in 1975. While attending school, she worked for C&S National Bank in Atlanta for one year, as well as Rich’s for a total of six years. From the mid-to-late 1970s, she was a manager of trainee sales at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Decatur, Georgia, before entering the Superior Court of DeKalb County as an intermediate clerk in 1978, a role she held until 1981. Certified in education by Oglethorpe University in 1983, Ms. Mabry served in her first role within the realm of education at the DeKalb County School Systems as a paraprofessional in kindergarten from 1979 to 1981. From 1984 until her retirement in 2010, she was a teacher and administrator for the school system. While serving in these positions, she was a member of CATHY D.
