88 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Ohio Academy of Science in 1994. He has served the Academy as a past vice president of the sci- ence education section, past member of the execu- tive committee and as president from1998 to 2000. He is a 1998 fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers. In light of his success, Mr. Reames was honored with the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Ohio Academy of Science in 1974, 1977, 1984 and 1986. He was also named an Ohio Outstanding Biology Teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers in 1984 and received the Presidential Award for Excellence from the National Science Foundation in 1986. He received a National Education Award in 1993 from the Milken Family Foundation, and he was a science teacher finalist in the American Teacher Awards, sponsored by the Walt Disney Corporation, in 1992. In his spare time, Mr. Reames enjoys raising alpacas. B y the time he was a high school freshman, Spencer Eugene Reames desired to become a teacher. Attracted to history and science, he decided to focus his attention on science and on attending Bowling Green State University, where he earned a BS in education in 1968. Hired by Logan Hills High School, which later became Benjamin Logan High School, he has been serving as a science teacher at the high school for the past 52 years. He was also chairman of the science department from 1973 to 2010. Mr. Reames had also achieved an MS in science from Ball State University. He has served as a science education consultant and has been a member of the State Science CurriculumAdvisory Committee. Previously, he served as a member of the technical advisory committee for the State Superintendent Public Instruction in Columbus, Ohio. Furthermore, he dedicated his time to the Solid Waste District Policy Advisory Committee. In addition, Mr. Reames edited, “The Ohio Sci- enceWorkbook: Biotechnology” in 1993.
