89 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION a Certificate in Advanced Dentistry from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and in 1964, received the Fairbanks Medal as outstanding dental officer, completing a nine month long advanced medical services program. He was certified in periodon- tology after completing a three-year training pro- gram in 1969, and he was judged as Outstanding by the American Board of Periodontology in 1975 and the American Board of Oral Medicine in 1985. He has been licensed in the states of Oregon since 1980 and Texas since 1984. Dr. Rees served as professor of periodontics at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry in Dallas from 1984 to 2017. During those years, he was promoted to department chair and director of the Stomatology Center, and obtained emeritus status upon retirement in 2017. Thereafter, the Terry Rees Endowed Chair in Stomatology was established after obtaining more than $1 million in externally and Texas A&M University funded support in 2018. He has contributed to over 300 scientific publications, was an invited lecturer at over 450 presentations, continuing education programs and clinics on a national and international scale, and has been a designated or ad hoc reviewer for 26 peer-reviewed journals. A former president of the Southwest Society of Periodontists and the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Rees was listed as among the Best Dentists in America from 2003 to 2017 and named an Extraordinary Professor in Graduate Periodontics by Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in 1987. He received the 2013 Outstanding Periodontal Educator Award from the American Academy of Periodontology, 2001 Gies Award from the American Dental Association and 1985 Geriatric Dental Health Award from the American Dental Association. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Periodontology, American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists. D r. Terry D. Rees found his niche in dentistry after a dentist presented a seminar in his high school class in the 1950s. Impressed with what the dentist offered, he went on to obtain a DDS from the University of Tennessee College of Den- tistry in 1957 before entering the Army, where he served for 27 years.
