92 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION I nspired to enter librarianship by her junior high school librarian, Janet Platt Sarratt served John E. Ewing Middle School in Gaffney, South Carolina, for 35 years as a school library media specialist prior to her retirement in 2006. During her tenure there, she was on the senior advisory council from 1997 to 2000. Post-retirement, she has continued to serve as a volunteer librarian at the Village School in Gaffney since 2012. A certified librarian media specialist in the State of South Carolina, Ms. Sarratt holds a Bachelor of Library Science from Mansfield University, Master of Education from Winthrop University and Master of Library Science from the University of South Carolina. Exceptionally proud of her involvement in several committees related to librarianship and education, she served the American Association of University Women as vice president, secretary, president, program vice president and membership chair. Likewise, she is a past president of the Cherokee County Education Association and Cherokee County School Librarians, and was chairman of the American Association of School Librarians in 1993. Notably, she is a life member of the American Library Association. Alongside her professional endeavors, Ms. Sarratt has dedicated her time and expertise to numerous civic activities. She has been a volunteer usher for the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center since 1996, and previously served as a leader and trainer for the Piedmont Area of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America from 1971 to 1992, having thereafter been board director from 1999 to 2003. A donator for Toys for Tots as well, she was membership chair of the Community Library Association and also maintains affiliation with the North Carolina Garden Club. In light of her achievements, Ms. Sarratt has been recognized on numerous occasions and was highlighted in the 23 rd edition of Who’s Who of American Women in 2002. Outside of her work, Ms. Sarratt owns two horses and enjoys attending the annual Jones Sparrow Story Telling Festival. She also likes reading, sewing, crafting, camping, gardening and traveling.
