105 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION (RETIRED) Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Catawba, VA SPECIAL EDUCATOR, RESEARCHER Basking Ridge, NJ DR. STEPHEN E. KING I nspired by his high school and college band directors, Dr. Stephen E. King aimed to emulate their influence as a music educator. He received a BM from Western Kentucky University in 1964, MS from Radford University in 1975 and EdD from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1991. Dr. King was an adjunct instructor of music education at Virginia Tech from 2008 until his retirement in 2019, where he had been a graduate teaching assistant. He was the conductor of the University Symphonic Wind Ensemble in 2007 and a music coordinator and supervisor of fine arts for Roanoke Public Schools from 1985 to 1997. Dr. King commenced his career as band director of Coeburn High School in 1964, and by 1968, he was the band director at William Byrd High School, where they were the first Virginia honor band in the region. Dr. King serves as research chair of the American School Band Directors Association and is a member of the National Association for Music Education and Virginia Education Association. He was the recipient of the 2014 C. Sidney Berg Award and 2013 Edwin Franko Goldman Award. D r. Jeffry P. La Marca earned a PhD in education from the University of California Riverside, MA from California State University, San Ber- nardino, and BA from California State Polytechnic University, Pomo- na. He has been an assistant professor of special education and taught at many colleges, including UCRiverside, UC Irvine andVictor Valley College. Dr. LaMarca’s career commenced in 1979 as the contrabassoonist for La Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México. His teaching career began in 1987 with the San Bernardino USD and the Victor Elementary School District. He was later a music specialist at Capistrano USD from 1996 to 2001. The recipient of numerous awards and grants, Dr. La Marca received a Special Education Leadership Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education and a Seton Hall University Research Council Grant. He presents nationally and internationally on his research, which has been published in scientific journals. Dr. La Marca is a Comendador of the OrdemMilitar de São Sebastião, dita da Frecha, an Irmão Confrade Cavaleiro de Mérito of the Real Confraria de São Teotónio, and a GEM (Generalized Empirical Method) Fellow of the Bernard J.
