112 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING Research Institute for Environmental Medicine. Conducting research in biothermal engineering, environmental sensors, air quality, human thermos-physiological response modeling and simulation, Dr. Berglund has contributed articles to professional journals and is a registered professional engineer. Likewise, he is a fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), an honorary member of the Japanese Society of Heating, Air Conditioning and Sanitation Engineers, and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Dr. Berglund was the recipient of the 1973 Teeter Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers and the 1979 Ralph G. Nevins Award from ASHRAE. He cites one of his career highlights to be the work he is completing now: working with military working dogs to reduce overheating injuries during vigorous outdoor military activities. D r. Larry Glenn Berglund developed an interest in science and engineering from a young age. Born with a heart defect, he survived a complicated heart surgery at the age of 11, prompting his intrigue with biomedical engineering. He completed a BS and MS in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota before relocating to Kansas State University, where he was sponsored by the Heart and Lung Association to obtain a PhD in bioenvironmental engineering. At the inception of his career in 1965, Dr. Berglund served as a project engineer with Trane Co. in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After receiving his PhD, he beganworking forMichigan Technological University until 1975. For the following 21 years, he was a lecturer at Yale University, where he also served as an associate fellow in their John B. Pierce Foundation Laboratory. Subsequently, Dr. Berglund was a professor in the Department of Architecture at TohokuUniversity in Sendai, Japan, and an associate research fellow with Kimberly Clark Corp. Until his retirement in 2019, he was a biomedical research engineer for the U.S. Army DR. LARRY GLENN BERGLUND BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH ENGINEER (RETIRED) U.S. Army Research Institute for Environmental Medicine Natick, MA
