Mr. Cal could not be hired immediately upon completing his application as he had 13 days government-paid travel time to his home state. His first job assignment was a Navy contract requiring the use of his MOS as a photo interpretation and target acquisition in identifying the Russian missiles and launchers being installed in Cuba. Mr. Cal has been involved in nuclear power plant construction and nuclear waste management, as well as hydroelectric power supply and consumer services. Additionally, he developed a thickness gauge for silicone rubber and a process for forming parts on the minuteman missile, as well as employed PSDS technology and standards availability to Lockheed Martin on F-22 and McDonnell Douglas as a result of the merger as a consulting engineer. I nspired to enter aerospace engineering from watching the launch of Sputnik, Clarence Adam Cal Sr. has always boasted a passion for science. Working at Boeing for the majority of his career, he first served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army before being hired by Boeing as a quality assurance engineer in the Quality Assurance Research and Development Group, Quality Assurance Department, Aerospace Division, in 1962. After taking a leave from Boeing between 1970 and 1972 to work as administrative assistant to the Assistant Superintendent, Central Region, Mr. Cal worked in the Municipal Government Sector, Seattle City Light, as director of consumer affairs. In 1974, he returned as a project quality and safety engineer for ARCO and ERDA/NRC on the Hanford Reservation for processing nuclear waste. He remained on the Hanford Reservation when he accepted a job as lead quality assurance and safety engineer for Washington Public Power. Subsequently, he returned to Boeing as lead corporate engineering standards and projects engineer in 1979, where he led the conversion of Boeing standards from hardcopy CLARENCE ADAM CAL SR.
