The holder of a U.S. patent for a polyphase variable frequency inverter, Mr. Perilstein engineered the installation of a similar mechanism for a Texas oil processing plant in 1995. He specializes in the engineering components of inverters, converters, electrical- mechanical equipment and relays, and power and control distribution. Maintaining affiliation with the IEEE, he is a member of the rail transit vehicle interface standards committee. A former specialist 5 surveyor in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968 to 1974, Mr. Perilstein has always enjoyed his profession. He has defined himself as “an expert in the specification of equipment,” and prides himself on his accurate specifications tailored for each client. As a testament to his success, Mr. Perilstein was presented with the Third Prize Trophy at the World Wide Inventor Expo in 1982. W hen he was a toddler, Fred M. Perilstein visited the 30th Street Station of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Philadelphia, which was a mecca for electrified railroading. Enthralled by the railroad, Mr. Perilstein grew up fascinated by electronics and escalated from disassembling his family home’s electrical system to tinkering with radios in his older years. Attending the Newark College of Engineering, Mr. Perilstein graduated with a BSEE in 1972. He earned an MSEE from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1977. Today, he is a registered professional engineer in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and California. Mr. Perilstein boasts over 40 years of experience in electrical engineering and has served as a consultant for Envar Services, Inc., since 1997. Previously, he was president of Tramlec Corporation, Consultant Engineers, in Springfield, New Jersey, from 1982 to 1997 and an applications engineer for the Federal Pacific Electric Corporation in Newark, New Jersey, from 1972 to 1978.
