133 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING Branching out his interests, Dr. Vachon also obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the Jones Law School in 1969, and later on in his career, an MS in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in 1983. He is a registered professional engineer in the States of Texas, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama, and he was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1971 and U.S. Supreme Court in 1982. He is also a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Since 2016, Dr. Vachon has served as chairman of Vachon Global. Employed with several institutions and engineering firms over the course of his career, he is a past chairman of Direct Measurements, Inc.; past president of COMPRIS, Thacker Engineering, VNA Systems, Inc., and Vachon Nix & Associates; and past aerospace engineer and technologist with the NASAMarshall Space Flight Center. Earlier in his career, he was a research and development engineer with E. I. DuPont de Nemours, professor at Auburn University and engineer at Hayes International. A contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Vachon was recognized by the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers as a “Wonder of Engineering,” by the American Society for Engineering Education as an “Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Professor in the United States” and by Western Electric as an “Outstanding Professor in the Southeast.” He was the recipient of the Pan American Academy of Engineering Engineer Statesman Award and he won the ASME Gold Medal in 2019 for eminently distinguished engineering achievements, the highest award the ASME offers. Dr. Vachon is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and NSPE, past president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and past executive vice president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations. He is a member of the IEEE and SWE. D r. Reginald Irenee Vachon was inspired to pursue engineering while growing up during World War II. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and Auburn University, and received a bachelor’s degree and MS in nuclear science in 1958 and 1960, respectively.
