David Wylie Yarbrough is the vice president of R&D Services, Inc., in Watertown, Tennessee, after having spearheaded the thermal insulation and building science company with his associate, Ron Graves, in 1994. Accredited for testing in thermal insulation by the National Volunteer Laboratory Accreditation Program through the National Institute of Science and Technology in 1997, it was subsequently accredited by the International Accreditation Service for insulation testing and inspection services. R&D Services, as well as its conjoining organization R&D Engineering LLC, provides testing, consulting and quality control in thermal insulation and building science industries. An alumnus of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Dr. Yarbrough holds a BChE, MSChE and PhD, awarded in 1960, 1961 and 1966, respectively. Prior to establishing R&D Services, he was a faculty member in the College of Engineering at Tennessee Technological University for 32 years, where he served as an assistant professor, associate professor and full professor of chemical engineering; associate dean of engineering for graduate studies and research; and chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering. Honored with the title professor emeritus in 2002, during his tenure, he received a 1983 University Sigma Xi Research Award, 1987 University Research Award and 1990 Outstanding Engineering Faculty Award. Dr. Yarbrough served Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a part-time research staff member between 1978 and 1979 and 1980 and 2010. Additionally, he is a consultant to numerous companies, and has authored or co-authored over 250 papers, book chapters, and presentations in scholarly journals and conferences. Dr. Yarbrough is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee and Florida. He received the ASTM’s Award of Merit, C16 Honors Award, McElroy Award and Award of Appreciation. He is a fellow of the Tennessee Academy of Science and International Thermal Conductivity Conference. Recognized as a 1998 Distinguished University Scientist by the Tennessee Academy of Science, he was also a co-recipient of a 2009 R&D 100 Award and recipient of the 1995 International Conductivity Conference Award.
