Post-retirement, Ms. Johnson maintains active involvement in the Rotary Club of Menlo Park. She continues to enjoy painting, horseback riding, singing, traveling, scuba diving and playing the stock market. She also mentors a young, underrepresented student entering college. She plans to follow her through her years of academic training to assure her success. Described as highly organized, detailed, persistent and creative, Ms. Johnson has also dedicated her efforts to the arts, winning a competition that awarded a full-year scholarship at the San Francisco Academy of Art University, and she was named Artist of the Year by the Burlingame Art Society in 2009. She authored and illustrated the book, “Burlingame Adventures: The Kohl Mansion Kaper with Davey Krockat and Kristofur Katlumbus.” L earning fiscal responsibility from a young age, K. K. “Kay” Johnson desired to maintain the personal freedom that financial independence would provide. Coupled with her love of music and early teachings in piano, she attended San Diego State University, receiving a BA in music education and pipe organ performance in 1964. Thereafter, she graduated from Claremont Graduate University with an MA in music history. Drawing upon four years of music teaching at California’s public schools, she accepted employment with U.S. Army Special Services as a civilian entertainment director in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970. Upon returning to the U.S., Ms. Johnson established a music studio, continued to work as church organist for 23 years and began to study finance. She served as a stockbroker and financial planner after acquiring NASD Series 7, 22 and 63 licenses and her CFP designation. In 1989, a company participating in an initial public offering hired her to create and manage its employee incentive stock option programs. In 1995, she formed Equity Compensation Solutions.
