159 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine FINANCE AND INSURANCE F rederick S. Wonham joined the U.S. Trust Company in New York in 1979, where he was employed as a senior vice president for two years. An executive vice president and director soon thereafter between 1982 and 1989, he ended his tenure with the firm as vice chairman in 1994. During this time, he served as president of G. H. Walker & Co., Inc., from 1970 to 1974, as well as president of White, Weld & Co., Inc., from 1975 to 1978. Earlier in his career, he was president, chief operating officer and senior vice president of White, Weld & Co. between 1974 and 1978. He commenced his career as an associate of G. H. Walker & Co. in 1955 and soon became general partner, president and chief executive officer by 1974. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and postgraduate studies at New York University, Mr. Wonham attributed his success to his non-traditional means of obtaining executive-level positions, which included working diligently and conducting independent studies in order to learn proper lessons and techniques to succeed. Between his academic studies, he served in the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of first lieutenant between 1953 and 1955. During this time, he was afforded the opportunity to travel to Italy and Austria on military duty. To remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Wonham maintained affiliation with the Bond Club of New York, where he served as governor from 1976 to 1980, and the Investment Association of New York, where he was president in 1968. A past president of the Round Hill Club of Greenwich, Connecticut, he was also a member of the Ausable Club in Keene Valley, New York, the Racquet and Tennis Club in New York, and the Riomar Chamber of Commerce in Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. Wonham was a trustee of the Provident Loan Society of New York, previously serving the organization as chairman. As a testament to his success, he was selected for inclusion in the 45th through 49th editions of Who’s Who in America. He passed away surrounded by friends and family in 2020.
