Welch is noteworthy state representative of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, a position he has held since 1985. Serving the state of New Hampshire in myriad political capacities over the decades, he has also represented District Rockingham 13 since 2004 and is the current chairman of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. Prior to these appointments, he served such entities as the Interbranch Criminal and Juvenile Council, the New Hampshire Association of Counties, the Rockingham County Executive Committee and the Kingston Historic District Commission. Named Citizen of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1997, Mr. Welch is a past chairman of the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Committee, for whom he found an official cemetery site. He attributes his profound success to his ability to value the thoughts of all representatives regardless of their political affiliation. He has also maintained membership with the New Hampshire Association’s Historic District Commission and the National Rifle Association. A re-enactor of the French and Indian War, Mr. Welch is a volunteer at the American Independence Museum. He has nine children, 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
