203 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS A fter graduation from Palm Beach High School and the University of Florida, Dr. Seymour C. Nash was inspired to pursue medicine after watching his uncle practice dentistry. Desiring to make a difference in other people’s lives, he gravitated toward the field of surgery and practiced for six weeks every summer during his medical studies with an established surgeon. After obtaining an MD from Washington University in St. Louis, he interned and completed a residency in surgery at Yale Medical Center between 1956 and 1959 before taking on his first role as a clinical associate at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, doing cancer research and surgery. Interested in urology due to not only the surgical practice, but also the diagnostics and medical treatment, Dr. Nash completed his three-year urological residency at Georgetown University Hospital before becoming an associate clinical professor at the University of Miami Medical School between 1964 and 1994. He also served as chairman of the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, Florida, for 25 years, beginning in 1989. Likewise, he opened his own private practice in urology, which he maintained from 1964 until his retirement in 2014. Dr. Nash contributed charitably to the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, becoming a Benefactor. With Mount Sinai, he raised millions of dollars to support the development of the Department of Urology. Likewise, he was the medical director of the Cancer Lifeline, a fundraising group through Mount Sinai Hospital, and presented numerous community lectures on prostate cancer. A contributor of articles to medical journals, Dr. Nash specialized in various treatments of prostate cancer. He considers a career highlight to be his role as co-author with Sylvan Meyer of the book “Prostate Cancer, Making Survival Decisions” in 1994. Dr. Nash and Sally, his latewife of more than 50 years, had a family consisting of three children, Allison, Elizabeth, and Gregory, and seven grandchildren. Since his wife’s death and his own retirement, Dr. Nash still enjoys sports, traveling, cruising, concerts, and plays with his companion, Carolee Reiber. SEYMOUR C.
