She was an adjunct faculty member in the behavioral health sciences department at St. Edward’s University until 1992. Civically involved as well, Ms. Rider maintains membership with the Settlement Club of Austin, which sponsors the Settlement Home for Children, a residential treatment center that has existed for more than a century. Currently, she sits on the board of directors of the Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health and for the Clinical Social Work Association. She is the governmental affairs director of the Texas Society for Clinical Social Work. For eight years, she was President of the Austin Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. Ms. Rider was named a Charles Wright Distinguished Alumni by the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work in 2001. She was also named a fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association in 2010. S erving the area of Austin, Kathy T. Rider is a clinical social worker who has been practicing independently since 1977. Counseling individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents, she has always had an interest in behavioral health and has sought to help others throughout their lives. She holds a BA and an MSSW from the University of Texas from 1967 and 1969, respectively. She is a licensed clinical social worker, board-approved supervisor, nationally board-certified in clinical social work and a certified group psychotherapist. At the inception of her career in 1969, Ms. Rider served in the outpatient adult mental health services department of the Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center, now known as Integral Care Center, until 1977. Concurrently, she was a consultant to the Austin Model Cities Project for one year and a community organization specialist for the project’s alcohol-related services for two years.
