208 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS A principal investigator for clinical drug trials in infants, children, youth and pregnant women with HIV, Dr. Scott has provided infectious disease consultations for several hospitals, including Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Notably, she participated in the first studies that identified the first cases of pediatric HIV infection in the early 1980s. She attributes her profound success to her persistence, good work ethic, honesty and professionalismwhile dealing with patients. Dr. Scott is amember of the redbook committee with the American Academy of Pediatrics, and maintains affiliation with the American Board of Pediatrics and Infectious Disease Society. She earned the 2019 Career Achievement Award from the University of Miami, 2004 Lois O. Blythe Award for Contributions to Research in HIV, 2004 Micha Bachelor Award, and 1996 Women of Distinction Award from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. S upported by more than 40 years of experience in medicine, Dr. Gwendolyn B. Scott specializes in pediatrics with a subspecialty in pediatric infectious disease. Drawing upon an early interest in microbiology, she pursued a career as a medical technologist subsequent to her academic studies. Upon being inducted into medical school at the University of California San Francisco, she continued to harbor her love for microbiology, thus leading her into the realm of infectious disease. Dr. Scott completed a residency and fellowship in pediatrics and infectious disease prior to commencing her career in 1978 as a professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Now named professor emeritus, she continues to serve as director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, where she trains fellows in pediatric infectious disease. Throughout her career, she has obtained research grants for the study of long-term effects of HIV in children who were infected at birth, as well as the long- term effects of uninfected children born to HIV- infected mothers.
