A former private geriatric care manager for five decades, she holds expertise in gerontology and family therapy. She also worked as a coordinator and staff trainer at Hasbro, where she produced “Comfort Companion Pets,” lifelike interactive animatronic pets created to bring companionship to aging loved ones. Receiving a BA, with honors, from the City College of New York, Dr. Somers subsequently earned an MS in recreational therapy from Lehman College and a PhD in human and organizational development from Fielding Graduate University.
