In addition, she was a public health nurse and a member of the nursing practice advisory committee for the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Since 1997, she has been a school nurse for Albuquerque Public Schools and has been on the Albuquerque Public Schools’ School Nurse Leadership Committee since 2019. Citing her faith in the Lord, Ms. Swan is a Eucharistic minister and also served the Girl Scouts of the United States of America as a camp nurse for several years. She attributes her career success to her faith in God, her practice of prayer and the kindness of other individuals she has encountered in her life. A member of the National School Nurses Association, Ms. Swan was the recipient of the 1985 Breakthrough to Nursing Award for Minority Students. She is featured in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Nursing. A nna Rose Swan initially desired to enter the legal industry. However, upon pursuing her undergraduate studies, she became attracted to the idea of serving other people through medicine. In 1985, she received a BSN from the University of New Mexico and commenced her career in nursing. At the inception of her career, Ms. Swan served the University of New Mexico’s Children’s Psychiatric Hospital as a nurse, which she cites as a career highlight. She notes that her time there was a wonderful learning experience and she enjoyed watching the behavioral changes in the pediatric patients. As her career advanced, Ms. Swan served Heights Psychiatric Hospital, President Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to develop clinical skills as a psychiatric nurse. In addition to these ventures, shewas a clinical instructor anddirector of the health unit and coordination program at the Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute from the late 1980s to early 1990s.
