219 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS surgery and chief resident associate in surgery at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Minnesota. Commencing his career in 1968, Dr. Woolam served as a surgeon in Lubbock, Texas, until his retirement in 2017. Lending his expertise to academia as well, he was employed by Texas Tech University within its School of Medicine beginning in 1972 as an associate clinical professor of surgery for two years. Advancing to professor and interim chairman of the Department of Surgery, he served as a clinical full professor between 1975 and 2017. During his tenure, he was also the chief medical officer of Southwest Life & Health/ Firstcare from 2007 to 2017. Dr. Woolam is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and has earned numerous accolades in recognition of his esteemed contributions to medicine and academia. He received the Outstanding Clinical Professor Award from Texas Tech University in 1977 and subsequently was named a Distinguished Alumnus by the university in 2000, from which he received a BA in 1958. Additionally, he was named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association, the Texas Surgical Society, the Society for Surgical Oncology and the Southern Surgical Association, among other organizations. Impressively, Dr. Woolam has maintained executive roles within prestigious associations, such as the American Cancer Society, with which he was a delegate, director, president of the Lubbock Unit and of the Texas Division, and national president from 1999 to 2000. He was also the president of the Lubbock County Division of the American Heart Association, president of the Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society and president of the Lubbock Surgical Society. I nspired by the physicians he surrounded himself with early on in his life, Dr. Gerald L. Woolam is a pronounced retired educator and surgeon with 55 years of experience to his credit. An alumnus of Baylor Medical College, he received an MD in 1962 and went on to serve as an intern at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, and resident in general GERALD L.
