Since that time, Kushiyu has grown to garner a considerable reputation in the Valley. In 2002, the establishment was expanded and refurbished, and now sits as one of the premier Japanese restaurants in the Valley. Notably, more than 80% of its customers are regulars. Born in Tokyo, Mr. Koizumi worked in several restaurants in his native Japan before immigrating to the United States to study English and hotel/restaurant management. Additionally, he attended classes at École hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland to learn the European- style of the service industry. Acquiring a professional food handler certification soon thereafter, he graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Science in hotel/restaurant administration in 1996. In 1997, he served as a manager of the Hotel San Remo in Las Vegas before relocating to California. Specializing in sushi and kushiyaki, in addition to a variety of appetizers and dinner specials, Kushiyu Restaurant is acclaimed in the State of California. With a rotating special menu with fresh and seasonal ingredients, the restaurant also boasts an eclectic selection of both hot and cold sake from Japan.
