He was admitted to practice law in Indiana and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth, Sixth, Seventh and District of Columbia Circuits, the U.S. Court of International Trade, the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Commencing his career as an associate of Barnes, Hickam, Pantzer & Boyd in Indianapolis in 1971, Mr. Ackerson also served as chief counsel and executive director for the U.S. Senate subcommittee of constitutional amendments in Washington, D.C., as well as a partner of Kyle & Proffitt and Sidley Austin LLP. In more recent years, he was chairman of Ackerson & Bishop Chartered, partner and director of Sommer Barnard Ackerson, P.C., and founder and chairman of Ackerson Kauffman Fex. Since 2001, he has remained chairman of Class Corridor LLC. Mr. Ackerson is most renowned for defending landowner rights, including nationwide class action lawsuits. He is notable for opening the very first American law firm in Cairo and acted as chief counsel for the U.S. Senate, in which he passed Title IX. He has maintained affiliation with the American Bar Association, where he has served on their litigation section, business and banking section, international law section and administrative law section. Furthermore, he is a past president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. As a testament to his success, Mr. Ackerson was the recipient of an honorary PhD from Purdue University in 2006. Civically involved, he was a Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate for the Fifth District of the State of Indiana in 1980 and sat on the liberal arts advisory council of Purdue University from 1997 to 2000. Married with two children, two stepchildren and nine grandchildren, Mr. Ackerson enjoys singing and traveling in his spare time.
