He combined his law practice and business operations in the Hamra Plaza office building in 2002. Mr. Hamra was the founder and former chairman of Hamra Enterprises, which owns and operates 170 Wendy’s, Panera Bread Cafes, and Noodles & Company restaurants throughout Missouri, Chicago, Boston, Memphis and Mississippi. From 1965 to 1970, he served as the city attorney for Nixa, Missouri, where he was instrumental in building the city’s electrical distribution system, for which he received the key to the city. He was the governmental relations attorney for Branson, Missouri, from 1990 to 2005, where he secured funding for widening Highway 65 to four lanes. Mr. Hamra was elected charter president of the Rotary Club of Springfield Southeast in 1967. He is a foundation board member of Ozarks Technical Community College, where the “Hamra Family Library” is located, and a former board member of St. Jude’s, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and Cox Hospital, where he was instrumental in Cox’s purchasing 40 acres of land and the Springfield Community Hospital, which allowed Cox to expand substantially. He also donated $700,000 for the construction of the Kitchen Homeless Family Shelter, and in 2012, the “Sam and June Hamra Family Garden” was dedicated at Cox Hospital. He served as President of Bear’s Paw Country Club in Naples, Florida, in 2010. In recognition of his service, the Legal Services of Southern Missouri 11,000 square foot building was dedicated as the “Sam F. Hamra Center for Justice” in 2012. He received the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Springfieldian of the Year” Award in 2018. Mr. Hamra and hiswife, June, have four children: Sam III, Karen, Mike and Jackie. They also have 10 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. S am F. Hamra graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and earned a BSBA and LLB from the University of Missouri. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany, and later as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Western Missouri.
