Hawkins currently serves as the owner of the Law Office of Darryl G. Hawkins, LLC, in Columbia, South Carolina. Opening his practice in 2006, he practices plaintiff’s professional negligence and is most renowned for his expertise in legal and medical malpractice cases. Obtaining his business from referrals by other lawyers in the region, Mr. Hawkins has always been a diligent, intelligent and loyal attorney to colleagues and clients alike. Looking forward, he intends to remain practicing law into his later years. Mr. Hawkins was attracted to the legal industry from a young age, drawing inspiration from his father, who was also a lawyer. He attended Wofford College, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Later on, he received a JD from the University of South Carolina and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar. Mr. Hawkins is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth and 11th Circuits, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. In addition to his primary work, Mr. Hawkins has served in the John Belton O’Neal Inn of Court for the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates since 2011. Utilizing past experience as a partner and attorney with Lewis, Babcock & Hawkins for more than 20 years, he commenced his career as a law clerk to Chief Justice C. Bruce Littiejohn from 1983 to 1984. Likewise, he is a past president of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, past chairman of the Foundation for the Multi-Handicapped, Blind and Deaf of South Carolina, Inc., and past board of commissioners member for the South Carolina School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Handicapped. Mr. Hawkins has maintained affiliation with such prominent organizations as the Richland County Bar Association, for whom he served as president from 2006 to 2007, as well as the South Carolina Association for Justice and the American Bar Association.
