Joannes is a distinguished attorney with more than 55 years of experience to his credit. The attorney and principal owner of John A. Joannes, P.C., in Pasadena, California, since 1994, he has appeared as an expert witness on myriad matters involving immigration law. Enthralled by the idea of helping others immigrate to the United States to create a better life for themselves and their families, Mr. Joannes is admitted by the California State Bar and is licensed to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States. To prepare for his career, Mr. Joannes received a BS in political science fromOccidental College, an MPA from the University of Southern California and a JD from the University of Southern California Law School. Prior to his current role, Mr. Joannes held appointments with the firm Bonaparte and Joannes, of which he was a partner between 1963 and 1994. Earlier in his career, he was staff counsel for McCone Commission and a law clerk for Judge E. Avery Crary of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, as well as for Judge Stanley N. Barnes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. A prolific writer in addition to his primary responsibilities, Mr. Joannes co-authored, “The Immigration Reform and Control Art Handbook.” A member of the American Immigration Association, he has contributed to helping clients obtain their doctorate degrees at the University of California Los Angeles, as well as helped clients obtain patents for fuel cells.
