He represented the Washington Bankers Association for many years, and later worked on national and international financial transactions for which he would draft and negotiate documents and preside over the closing of transactions. Mr. Ritter has been active in bar activities, serving on the Washington State Statute Law Committee, as chairman of the Business Law Section of the King County Bar Association, and as chairman of the Business Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association. He also served on several committees of the King County Bar Association and the University of Washington Law School Visiting Committee. He sang in his church choir, served on boards of music groups, including Early Music Seattle and Cathedral Associates, and was chairman of the University of Chicago Club of Puget Sound and member of the National Alumni Board. He also served as a member of the Seattle Chapter of the American Lung Association. I nspired to become a lawyer after learning about the American Revolution, Daniel Benjamin Ritter was awarded a scholarship to the University of Chicago, where he earned a BA with honors in 1957. After one year in the U.S. Army and two years of teaching high school English, he enrolled in the University of Washington Law School, where he served as an editor of the law review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif upon receiving his LLB in 1960. He joined Davis Wright Tremaine as an associate, and within one week after passing theWashington Bar examination, he argued successfully before the Washington Supreme Court. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U. S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. He became a partner in 1969 until 2006, when he became of counsel until retiring in 2009.
