Mr. Terry recalls a groundbreaking time while working with Modesitt & Shaw. They were involved in a high-profile lawsuit with Merrill Lynch and McDonald Douglas, which had one of the initial cases that involved the tipping of inside information as evidence of materiality of financial loss. Throughout his career as an active lawyer, Mr. Terry was a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, Real Estate and Probate Section, Taxation Section and, for a substantial part of his career, the Antitrust Section; the Colorado Bar Association’s Business Law and Taxation Section; and the Denver Bar Association, who awarded him with a 50 Years of Service Award in 2019. He previously served as president, vice president and membership chairman of the Denver Gyro Club. F rom watching his grandfather excel as a lawyer and district attorney for the City of New York, Ward E. Terry Jr. was inspired to pursue law in order to honor his grandfather. He received a BA in 1965 and JD in 1968, both from the University of Colorado, and in 1976 he went on to achieve an LLM in taxation from the University of Denver. Up until his retirement, he was admitted to practice in the state of Colorado, and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the U.S. Tax Court. Retired since 2019, Mr. Terry was a solo practitioner from 2007 to 2019 and a shareholder with Krys Boyle from 2002 to 2007. Additionally, he was a shareholder and director for Clanahan, Tanner, Downing & Knowlton from 1997 to 2002 and a shareholder, officer and director at Terry, Syke and Graham for one year. From 1976 to 1996, he was a practitioner of tax, securities and corporate finance law, vice president, a shareholder and a member of the board of directors for the Hopper and Kanouff Professional Corporation, as well as a secretary and director at Ward Terry & Company from 1972 to 1976.
