292 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT A board member and vice chair of the Bright Promises Foundation since 2008, Marilyn Eisenberg has always exhibited a passion for nonprofit organizations from a formative age. The Bright Promises Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that creates opportunities for children in the Chicago area that works with local organizations to provide a basis for successful futures for at-risk youth. Alongside this endeavor, Ms. Eisenberg continues to serve as a board member for SHALVA since 2004, a program offering counseling services to domestic abuse survivors in the Chicago Jewish community. She formerly served SHALVA as president. Between 1980 and 2020, Ms. Eisenberg flourished as a co-founder, past president and board member of the Chicago Children’s Museum, a museum that provides interactive learning and imaginative play to children and their parents in Chicagoland. Demonstrating versatility in her past profession, she was the executive manager for the elite Ambassador West Hotel and assistant executive manager for the Knickerbocker Hotel. Presently she serves on several boards and does concierge and consulting work. Ms. Eisenberg is the proud matriarch of two children, one stepson and several grandchildren. Most recently serving as the executive director of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation in Philadelphia from 1992 until her retirement in 2019, she is a former educator who taught at the University of Pennsylvania beginning in 1982. Serving as an instructor, coordinator and research associate, she is also a past director of PENNlinics and was a teacher at Albert M. Greenfield School. Dr. Freyd has been a consultant for Learning Magazine since 1985, president of the Friends of the Philadelphia City Institute Library since 2014, board member of the Friends Center City Retirement Community since 2011, and has presented at conferences and workshops. Notably, she was a board member for the Institute for Experimental Psychiatry from 1997 to 2017. She is the recipient of myriad grants from such organizations as the Philadelphia Board of Education, Merck Sharp & Dohme, the National Council of Teachers of English Research Foundation and the National Science Foundation.
