During his tenure at NCC, he also served as an adjunct professor at New York University in their College of Arts and Sciences and the Glucksman Ireland House from the late 1980s to mid-2000s. Dr. Blake draws upon a BA from Manhattan College, as well as an MA and a PhD from New York University. Between his studies, he earned a Fulbright fellowship to Trinity College in Ireland, which he cites as a career highlight in light of his personal studies with the famous Máirtín Ó Cadhain, one of the most prominent Irish language writers of the 20th century. During his time in academia, Dr. Blake participated as a writer and editor for several journals and periodicals, including as editor-in-chief of Eire- Ireland: The Journal of Irish Studies. An editorial board member of several other scholarly journals, he has also made oral presentations at academic conferences across the globe. Notably, Dr. Blake had four sabbatical leaves from NCC, including one to Ireland where he conducted research on Irish literature and culture and the Gaelic language. Additionally, he has maintained association with the Modern Language Association, where he was chair of the discussion group for the two-year college executive committee, Celtic studies director and a representative to the delegate assembly parliamentary body. Furthermore, he sat on the executive committee of the American Conference for Irish Studies. A past president of the Gaelic Society of New York, Dr. Blake also served as vice president of the Yeats Society of New York, was a representative-at-large of the Mid-Atlantic region of the American Conference for Irish Studies and vice president of the American Association of Celtic Language Teachers. He has been listed in Who’s Who in American Education. H ailing from a familial background of Irish heritage and culture, Dr. James Séamus Blake was a renowned educator of Irish literature for more than 40 years. Most recently serving Nassau Community College (NCC) in Garden City, New York, as a professor beginning in 1984, he attained emeritus status in 2001.
