Prior to these appointments, he was an educator at such institutions as the Dutchess College of State University of NewYork, Ramapo College, the State University of New York at Albany and American University. Specializing in developmental psychology, education, philosophy, and the philosophy of mathematics and physics, Dr. Bynum was the biographer, author and editor of the scholarly classic “Conceptual Notation and Related Articles” through Oxford University Press. He also co-edited and wrote “Computer Ethics and Professional Responsibility” and was a former founder and editor-in-chief of “Metaphilosophy” from 1968 to 1992. Notably, he was an associate producer of the video series “What is Computer Ethics?” and contributed articles to scholarly journals. Throughout his longitudinal career, Dr. Bynum founded the American Association of Philosophy Teachers, and the Research Center on Computing and Society at Southern Connecticut State University. Likewise, he co-founded the Research Center on Values in Emerging Science and Technology, where he was co-director. An alumnus of the University of Delaware, Dr. Bynum graduated with honors and distinction with two bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and philosophy in 1963. He subsequently attended Princeton University, where he attained a Master of Philosophy in 1966, and the City University of New York, obtaining a Master of Philosophy and PhD in 1984 and 1986, respectively. Dr. Bynum is a life member of the American Association of Philosophy Teachers and Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, as well as a fellow of the Andrew Mellon Foundation, Danforth Foundation and Woodrow Wilson Foundation. He earned the 2011 Preston Covey Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association for Computing and Philosophy, the 2008 Barwise Prize from the American Philosophical Association, and the 2009 Weizenbaum Award from the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology. D r. Terrell Ward Bynum is a pioneer in the development of computer ethics as a field of academic research, drawing upon over five decades of experience within the realm of education.
