Ms. Coluccio writes poetry collections and was a contributing writer to the Artistic Newsletter in 2004. She has also composed various children’s songs and wrote lyrical adaptations and music to “The Pledge of Allegiance.” Writing and publishing The Soldier’s Prayer, the poem was sent overseas to soldiers, as well as VHS tapes, DVDs and murals completed by the children, providing recreational therapy to wounded warriors recuperating at military hospitals. The Department of the Navy accepted her video format, and had commanders bring it to their posts and children throughout New Jersey. Ms. Coluccio is a philanthropist who donates to charity drives. She received a Catholic Charities Award for Community Partnership. Ms. Coluccio has received Letters of Commendation from the military, and was honored with the American flag flown over Afghanistan. A s a child, Josephine Catherine Coluccio enjoyed helping others. Influenced by her great uncle, a missionary priest who built schools, an orphanage and prepared youngmen for the seminary in Panama, she graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Education in 1974. Over the course of 35 years, she has provided a highly structured curriculum for preschoolers for growth and development. First serving as an elementary mathematics and science teacher and coordinator at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, she then served as a public relations coordinator for McDonald’s in Staten Island. Ms. Coluccio began her tenure as a day care group teacher for the Congress of Italian American Organizations from 1979 to 1980. From 1980 to 1982, she served as amathematics teacher on a departmental level. In 1983, she founded Little Yellow House in Toms River, New Jersey. Owning and operating this in-home learning preschool/daycare until 1990, she served as the owner and director of Little Explorers, an Ed-U- Care program that was recognized by President George W.
