Previously, she served as president of Comfort Cloth Collection, chief executive officer of Basket Classics, and consultant for the emergency and environmental practice at Laventhol & Horwath Consulting. Originally interested in teaching, Ms. Dobrick recognized that there were little jobs in the field in the early 1970s and secured a job with the Dobrick Gallery as director in 1974. She later spent over 10 years at Chicago Public Schools as a K-8 special education teacher.
