208 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Dr. Saroja Bharati grew up in an open-minded household inMadras, India, where her parents expressed their encouragement for Dr. Bharati to pursue her dream career. Receiving anMD fromMadras University with an A+ in medicine and surgery, she came to the United States and finished her final years of training in medicine, with a focus on cardiology, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach and a fellowship in cardiology at the Miami Heart Institute. She completed her residency in cardiology at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She taught at several universities and medical institutions, including the RushPresbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, the University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Chicago and the University of Houston in Texas, among others. To cite a few, she has also taught at Temple University, Rutgers University, Newark University and the Hershey Medical Center, as well as at Ivy League universities such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Cornell. Dr. Bharati joined the Rush University Medical Center in 1975 as an assistant professor in pathology and pediatrics, associate professor of pathology and pediatrics in 1977, and professor of pathology from 1982 to 1986 and again since 1989. She was also director of cardiac pathology at the Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, from 1988 to 2020. She has served as a consultant in cardiac pathology throughout her career. Demonstrating versatility in her field, Dr. Bharati has been a senior author of three original books, such as volumes I and II of “Pathology of Congenital Heart Disease: A Personal Experience with More Than 6,300 Congenitally Malformed Hearts” in 1996, the second revised edition of “Cardiac Surgery and the Conduction System” in 1992 and “Cardiac Conduction System in Unexplained Sudden Death” in 1990, among other publications. She is a fellow of the American Heart Association and the Council of Cardiovascular Disease in the Young. As a testament to her success, she was the recipient of the Woman in Science Award from the American Medical Women’s Association in 2004 and Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who in 2019.
