Subsequently, while completing his bachelor’s degree, his passion shifted toward political and social phenomena, and he graduated with a BA in political science in 1975 and an MA in political science in 1977, both from California State University. From 1980 to 1985, Mr. Garrison served as a senior sales engineer for Ferro Corporation, and spent the following eight years in the same role for W.R. Grace & Company. From 1993 to 2001, he was an international business manager for the Hampshire Chemical Corporation, drawing upon postgraduate coursework in business and international marketing at the Claremont Graduate School. From there, he joined the staff at Brenntag, where he served as a technical manager for the Western and Pacific Divisions until his retirement in 2010. Post-retirement, Mr. Garrison pursued his second love for education, and he served as a lecturer of social sciences and political economics at California State University, Fullerton. Additionally, he has sat on the board of directors for the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra since 2010 and maintains affiliation with the LAST, TAPPI, and the Los Angeles Society for World Affairs. Notably, Mr. Garrison holds a patent for fire retardant urethane, which he patented in 1963. Although his career has been filledwith highlights, he is especially proud of opening markets in Southeast Asia, Latin America and Australia, which he notes was a tremendous responsibility that garnered increased sales. During this time, he lived in Hong Kong for a brief period of time prior to returning to the United States. In recognition of his success, he has been featured in the 25th edition of Who’s Who in the West in 1995. Possessing dual careers in chemical research and development and academia, Lloyd Robert Garrison spent the first 11 years of his career in a research laboratory, having served Spencer Kellogg, Wyandotte Chemical Corporation and Bell & Howell as a laboratory technician between 1963 and 1974.
