316 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Inspired by the plot of a science fiction television series he watched in his youth, titled “Science Fiction Theater,” Dr. R. Michael Perry began contemplating the concept of death and how to extend the process of living. Attending college to pursue his professional interests, he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago in 1969, and an MS and PhD in computer science from the University of Colorado in 1979 and 1984, respectively. Since his undergraduate studies, he believed that the study and implementation of cryonics – the freezing and storage of human or animal remains with the intent of revival in the future – did not solely exist in fictional worlds. Rather, Dr. Perry theorized that cryonics could be a possible means for the preservation of life today, and its extension to a more distant tomorrow. Since 1987, Dr. Perry has served as the care servicesmanager for the Alcor Life Extension Foundation. In his role, he manages the foundation’s storage operations, including the maintenance and care of cryonics containers and stored tissues. Grateful to have been provided the opportunity to pursue his life’s mission, he emphasizes that he “never liked the idea of death,” and always sought to prove a means by which to address the dying process in humankind and other fellow creatures. Dr. Perry attributes his success to his belief in and devotion to transhumanism, a philosophical movement that advocates for the enhancement of the human condition by developing pioneering technologies and other options to advance longevity, compassion and cognitive abilities. He also credits his passion for life extension through technology as an important contributing factor in his success over the decades. In light of his dedication to his life mission, he authored the book, “Forever for All: Moral Philosophy, Cryonics, and the Scientific Prospects for Immortality,” and maintains affiliation with the Terasem Foundation, the Society for Universal Immortalism and the Society for Venturism. Looking toward the future, Dr. Perry intends to continue pursuing his interests in realizing the transhumanist promise. R.
