Ms. Kingdon-Reese previously served in the entertainment, hospitality and daycare industries before becoming a communications specialist for AT&T. In 2014, while finishing her nursing degree, she became the owner and executive director at Independent Health Solutions LLC. Initially beginning as a home care agency serving aging adults, the chronically ill and disabled community in South Dakota, the agency now offers occupational medical services to other businesses. They have pioneered telehealth-home visits, where nurses visit patients’ homes to perform diagnostics and hands-on care while practitioners conduct the visit on a virtual platform. This has increased rural access to health care and specialized medicine. In addition, she opened a divisional business titled PRN Professionals, which staffs medical personnel in long-term care facilities to assist in combating the nursing shortage worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Independent Health Solutions partnered with Start Today, a national apprenticeship program that allows non-traditional students to earn a higher education. In 2020, Ms. Kingon-Reese partnered with Nathan Gellhaus to acquire an assisted living facility for behavioral health residents, and she was elected the government relations committee chair in South Dakota, where she is building bridges between health care and government policy that benefits recipients and their providers. She received a SHE Award and was named among Top 40 Under 40. She also earned an accolade through the Prairie Business Magazine. Aspiring to work in medicine from an early age, Ashley Kingdon-Reese was inspired by her family history. She received an AS in nursing, followed shortly by a BSN.
