284 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT To remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Mortimer has maintained membership with the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the International Academy of Trial Judges, for whom he served as president in 2017. Additionally, he is a member of the American Judicature Society and American Board of Trial Advocacy, for whom he sat on the national board of directors and executive committee of the Los Angeles chapter. He is a former president of the San Marino City Club and of the Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation. To attest to his resounding success, Mr. Mortimer was honored with the Judicial Civility Award from the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2000, and he also earned an honorary DLitt in 2016. Civically engaged in the present day, he is a member of the board of governors of Occidental College and a member of the San Marino Community Church, Twilight Club of Pasadena and Balboa Yacht Club. After receiving a BA from Occidental College in 1958, Wendell Mortimer enlisted in the United States Army in 1960, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1962. Subsequently, he decided that law would be the perfect profession and, desiring to go back to college, attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he obtained his JD in 1965. In 1966, Mr. Mortimer was admitted to practice in California and served as a trial attorney for the State of California from 1965 to 1973. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Mortimer served Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges in Los Angeles between 1973 and 1993, where he was an associate for three years and partner for the following 17 years. After departing from the firm, he served in private practice from 1994 to 1995 before becoming an appointed judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Notably, Mr. Mortimer served on the Court until 2008, where he also sat as a member of the Complex Litigation Panel between 2000 and 2008.
