The recipient of a BA in government from Smith College in 1991 and a JD from the Santa Clara University Law School in 1994, Ms. Tatum is admitted to practice law before all courts of the State of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. To remain abreast of developments in her field, she has maintained affiliation with the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Bar Foundation, the American Bar Foundation, the San Antonio chapter of the Federal Bar Association, the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association and the National Bar Association, among other organizations. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Gavel Awards Committee of the American Bar Association. Alongside her primary feats, Ms. Tatum served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio between 2008 and 2012, and has lent her services pro bono to Rotary International, the Oak Hills Church and the YMCA. Contributing myriad publications to professional journals, she is also a speaker in the field. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Tatum was named a 2014 Super Lawyer and a 2007 Texas Rising Star by SuperLawyers, and was also featured in Texas Month’s The Horse’s Mouth in July of 2012. She was further named among the Top 50 Black Attorneys in 2014, having also received the Civics Award from Women That Soar the same year.
