BUSER, PHD Involved in academic administration within the government sector for more than 50 years, Dr. Carolyn E. Buser has served as a consultant of adult correctional education for the Correctional Educated Association Council since 2013. Previously, she excelled inmyriad roles with the U.S. Department of Education and Maryland Department of Education in roles of escalating prominence, such as education program specialist in adult education and director of correctional education. Likewise, she was involved with the correctional pre-release program at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women and the Maryland Penitentiary for a number of years. She commenced her career in 1970 as a correctional teacher for the Maryland Division of Correction. Holding a BA in English from Carleton College and an MS in special education and PhD in educational policy and administration from the University of Maryland, Dr. Buser is notable for her oversight of adult education programs in the Western states and Pacific Islands for the Department of Education. She has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Correctional Education since 2002. In the early stages of her life, Sandra Holbrook Childs became interested in home economics, partly due to the influence of her grandmother who taught her how to sew. She attended Georgia College & State University, where she earned a BS in vocational home economics in 1965. After accruing some years in the field, she matriculated in the University of Georgia and earned an MA in home economics in 1975 and an additional MA in teaching children with learning disabilities in 1987. Throughout the course of her longstanding career, which lasted for more than 30 years, Ms. Childs served on a secondary education level for various middle schools and high schools in Georgia. Teaching home economics to hundreds of students, she also served on the local Board of Education between 2007 and 2015. Although she has retired from teaching, Ms. Childs continues her community involvement through volunteering at soup kitchens, developing programs that help adult literacy, participating in her local food bank and maintaining membership with Neighbors 4 Neighbors. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue lending her time and services to her community while serving as hygiene coordinator for the N4N Food Bank. SANDRA HOLBROOK CHILDS
