Sloan served as a J. Alexander McMahon Professor of Health Policy and Management and Economics at Duke University for 25 years. Hired by Duke University in 1993 as a professor of economics, he also served as the director of the Center for Health Policy, Law and Management from 2001 to 2003, specializing in the study of health policy and the economics of aging, hospitals, health, pharmaceuticals and substance abuse. Backed by grants received from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, and National Institutes of Health, he has authored myriad books pertaining to his areas of interest. Dr. Sloan holds a BA in economics fromOberlin College and a PhD in economics specializing in labor and public economics from Harvard University, obtaining the latter in 1969. He previously served as president of the American Society of Health Economists and currently maintains membership with the National Academy of Medicine, the American Economic Association and the National Bureau of Economic Research. In recognition of his prestige, he earned the 2016 Victor R. Fuchs Award for Lifetime Contributions to Health Economics. FRANK A. SLOAN, PHD After receiving a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University in 1964, Judith Rosser Shepp began working in academia as a teacher in Brevard County, Florida. Maintaining her illustrious role for five years, she returned to academia in the 1980s, serving as an educator in Lake County, Florida, from 1988 to 1989. From there, Ms. Shepp served the Orange County Public School District as an elementary school teacher between 1992 and 2009. Concurrent to this role, she excelled as a special education teacher from 2001 to 2006 and as a primary team leader from 2008 to 2009 at Lovell Elementary School. Distinguished for her civic endeavors, Ms. Shepp has served in several executive-level roles with such organizations as the General Federation of Women’s Club Mount Dora, the Women’s Committee of Fine Arts, the Magnolia Garden Circle and the West Pasco Junior Woman’s Club. Currently, she has flourished as a mediator of the General Federation of Women’s Club, Washington, D.C., since 2015. As a testament to her success, Ms. Shepp received the 2012 Gold Key Award and 1996 Disney Teacheriffic Award, and was named the 1992 Clubwoman of the Year.
