147 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING Dr. Eugene Milton Zwoyer earned a BS in civil engineering from the University of New Mexico, MS in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and PhD in engineering from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He commenced his career as a faculty member at the University of New Mexico, serving from 1948 to 1971. As professor of civil engineering, he taught Structural Design, Engineering Mechanics, and Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. As research professor of civil engineering, he became the founding director of the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering Research Facility, holding the position for nearly a decade. Concurrently, Dr. Zwoyer operated a structural design consulting practice. As principal, he completed over 600 engineering projects. Dr. Zwoyer served on the board of directors of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and in 1971, was chosen to be the executive director and chief operating officer. From 1982 to 1984, he was president and chief executive officer of the American Association of Engineering Societies. In 1982, he was elected to serve as vice president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and served as a member of the executive committee. In 1984, he became president and chief executive officer of T. Y. Lin International, holding these positions until retiring from full-time practice in 1989. He continued serving in his consulting firm until 1992. Dr. Zwoyer is a registered professional engineer in New Mexico, New York, California and Arizona. A fellow and life member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), life member of the American Society for Engineering Education, and fellow and life member of the ASCE, he received the Award for Outstanding Professional Contributions and Leadership from the University of New Mexico. He also earned the Can Am Civil Engineering Amity Award from ASCE, Outstanding Engineer Award from NSPE, Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Civil Engineering Alumni Association of the University of Illinois, and Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Engineering College Alumni Association of the University of New Mexico.
