Thereafter, he joined a private practice in family medicine in 1951, where he remained until 1957. Dr. Lonsdale pursued two more years in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a medical officer prior to immigrating to the U.S. Within the U.S., Dr. Lonsdale served as a pediatrics resident and staff pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio from 1960 to 1962 and from 1962 to 1982, respectively. During his 20year tenure with the Cleveland Clinic, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition and a Certified Nutrition Specialist. In 1982, he joined a private practice specializing in nutrient therapy in Westlake, Ohio, titled the Preventive Medicine Group. He served the practice as a private physician for 30 years from 1982 until retiring in 2012. Dr. Lonsdale contributed myriad articles to professional journals. In 1987, he authored “A Nutritionist’s Guide to Clinical Use of Vitamin B1,” which was derived from his experience at the Cleveland Clinic where he solved a patient case involving vitamin B1 deficiency. Although no other physician in the clinic could solve the case, Dr. Lonsdale discovered that the six-year-old patient had a vitamin B1 deficiency, which caused intermittent cerebellar ataxia. Moving forward, Dr. Lonsdale became internationally recognized as an expert in biochemical metabolism. He also authored “Why I Left Orthodox Medicine: Healing for the 21st Century,” “A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine: Is Modern Medicine Helping You?” and “Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia and High Calorie Malnutrition.” Dr. Lonsdale formerly served as an educator in biochemistry at Cleveland State University and in genetics at Case Western Reserve University. He is enrolled in the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Derrick Lonsdale has been interested in medical sciences from a formative age. Initially desiring to delve into veterinary medicine, his mother encouraged him to focus his studies on the human body.
