Earlier, he studied at Manchester College and Ball State University before being drafted in the U.S. Army in 1960. Mr. Kegerreis has also served as a prolific author since 2010, focusing on children’s fiction, adult fiction and adult nonfiction. His first children’s fiction book was “Tibby and His Friend’s Big Secret” published by Outskirts Press in 2010, followed by a nonfiction, “Fleeing a Country Seeking a New Life” in 2011. Three years later, he authored a nonfiction, “Who is Going to Believe They Saved or Prolonged My Life,” about his fight with cancer, which he cites as a career highlight. He wrote a children’s fiction, “Hunting Elock,” in 2016 and “Searching for Elock” in 2019. In 2020, Mr. Kegerreis wrote “It’s a Miracle, Never Buy Gas Again.” Wheat-Mark Publishing requested he change the title to “I Wish I Had Those Gasoline Pellets,” an adult fiction released in February 2021. The book is based on his experience during a Vietnam War protest while being spit on in a military uniform at the Dallas Airport, and is available on Amazon.com, and in Barnes & Noble and other bookstores. After his wife passed away from Alzheimer’s disease, proceeds from the book have gone to Alzheimer’s research. Mr. Kegerreis attributes his success to the support of his family, who have provided inspiration for his books. He was inspired by his daughter, who said his “active imagination would translate well into written works.” Thereafter, he wrote a book for his daughter’s fourth grade class, whereupon the Sylvania Highland Elementary principal advised him to publish “Tibby and His Friend’s Big Secret.” Since publishing his successful books, he has also donated profits to cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. Joining the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1967, which merged with the C & O Railroad that became the CSX Transportation Railroad, Carl E. Kegerreis enjoyed a 32-year long career in railroad police and four years of federal services.
