50 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Mr. Owens served in the United States Army in Germany from 1953 to 1955 before matriculating in Langston University. Receiving a BA in art education in 1959, he worked for Lockheed Missile in Sunnyvale, California, from 1962 to 1964, where he exhibited his skills in electronics on the Gemini project. In 1965, Mr. Owens earned an MA in education from Central State University, followed by an MFA at the Instituto Allende in Mexico in 1966. Notably, he was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Rome during the summer of 1970, followed by a study tour grant to the African American Museum in New York City in 1973. As a testament to his success, Mr. Owens was inducted into the Ntu Art Association Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City in 2010, as well as the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame in 2016. Looking forward, he intends to remain engaged in his artistic endeavors and within his local community. Drawing upon 55 years of eminent experience within the world of art, Wallace Owens established Owens Arts Place Museum in Guthrie, Oklahoma, in 2005, where the museum still thrives. Recognized as the first and only example of fine arts in Logan County, Oklahoma, Owens Arts Place Museum exhibits fine art paintings and sculptures by local artists under the guidance of Mr. Owens. Prior to founding the museum, Mr. Owens served as a professor in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Central Oklahoma from 1980 until attaining emeritus status in 2005. Additionally, he was the chairman of the art department at Langston University between 1966 and 1980. Exhibiting his work in several one-man shows at Langston University, the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and the Oklahoma City Art Association, Mr. Owens has represented the State of Oklahoma in various collections and has also displayed his paintings and sculptures in group shows throughout the Midwest.
