As president, chief executive officer and founder of the company, as well as BB King’s Blues Clubs, Mr. Peters has notably revived the tourism industry within Memphis. Prior to delving into the entertainment industry, Mr. Peters was a noteworthy accountant. Commencing his career in 1977, he served Touche Ross as a senior certified public accountant for four years until 1981. Shortly thereafter, he began excelling as president of Progressive Capital Investment Corporation in 1982, maintaining his role until 1998. He previously earned a BBA in accounting from the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi in 1977. Alongside his current endeavors, Mr. Peters is the president of Lafayette’s Music Room and the Moondance Grill, and has provided music to Holland America Cruise ships. He has further maintained affiliation with the board of the BB King Museum for five years, Beta Alpha Psi, Omicron Delta Kappa and the board of the Raising Together Foundation. To attest to his success, he earned Dick Gregory Humanitarian Awards from the National Congress of Black Women in 2020 and 2021. Likewise, Lafayette’s Music Room was named the Top Place for Music in Memphis on four occasions and Beale Street Blues Company was named to the Street Musical Walk of Fame. Among his notable achievements, Mr. Peters is especially proud of being afforded the opportunity to serve as a pallbearer at BB King’s funeral, noting that he was a close friend of BB King for over 25 years. In his spare time, Mr. Peters enjoys golfing, traveling and attending concerts. In the early 1990s, S. Thomas Peters was approached by the City of Memphis, Tennessee, regarding his participation in the revitalization of Memphis’ Beale Street, a historically Black entertainment street whose roots in music and hospitality date back to the early 1900s.
