78 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Since 1993, Dr. Burgess has lent her expertise to the science advisory board of the International Center for Enhancement in Jerusalem. Previously, she was a field reviewer for the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Engaged in her community, she has sat on the board of directors at the Orphanage Association in Pune, India, since 1968 and has been a member of the Kodaikanal-Woodstock Alumni Association since 1956. Dr. Burgess holds a BS in Education from Texas Tech University and an MA and a PhD from the University of Missouri. Throughout her career, she has contributed articles to journals and chapters to books. In 2020, she authored “Shantistan: Enabling a Land of Peace,” “Longing for Home” in 2015, “Spirited Sisters” in 2014, and “Changing Brain Structure Through CrossCultural Learning: The Life of Reuven Feuerstein” in 2008. Dr. Burgess is especially proud of speaking at the Vatican and lecturing at the University of Oxford. A researcher in speech pathology, cognitive psychology and academia, Dr. Ruth Vassar Burgess is recognized as a professor emeritus at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, where she taught for nearly 30 years. Hired as a professor within the School of Education in 1976, she also served as a director of the Center for Research and Service for seven years prior to attaining emeritus status in 2005. Post-retirement, Dr. Burgess served as an adjunct professor at Regent University from 2005 to 2010. Dr. Burgess began her career as a speech therapist at Inkster Public Schools in Michigan in 1961 prior tomoving toMissouri. There, she served as a middle school teacher at Strafford Public Schools, a speech therapist at Fulton Public Schools and a speech-language clinician at Springfield Public Schools until 1968. For the following eight years, she was an assistant professor at Evangel College prior to being hired by Missouri State University. She holds teaching certificates in Texas, Michigan and Missouri and is additionally certified as a trainer of Instrumental Enrichment through the Feuerstein Institute in Jerusalem.
